Pricing and Quotes
How much do custom built-in projects cost in the Louisville area?
We don’t offer catalog pricing, because everything we build is custom. Most of our projects fall in the $5,000 to $10,000+ range. Pricing depends on where your build goes and how large it is, the materials and style you choose, and the type of built-in you’re looking for.
What affects the price the most?
The width of the wall the cabinetry covers, the ceiling height, and the material. Furniture-grade Appalachian hardwoods cost more than premium lacquered composites for painted work. Accessories such as routed 2700K LED strip lighting, fluted trim, brass mesh inlays, Blum soft-close runners, and touch latches each add to the total.
When do I get a firm price?
After we measure your room and you approve the design. You get an itemized quote listing every part of the project, so you can see what each choice costs and adjust before anything is built.
What deposit do you require?
A 25% deposit of the quoted total gets your project started.
Process and Timeline
How do I get started?
Send us a photo of the space in your home, along with any inspiration or examples of what you’re looking for, through our contact form. We’ll follow up to plan the project and set up an in-home measurement.
How long do projects normally take?
Our custom built-in projects take anywhere from 3 to 10 weeks, depending on the size of the build. All projects are handled in-house, so we give you updates throughout the build process.
Will I see the design before it’s built?
Yes. We prepare a 3D design of your built-in so you can review the layout, proportions, and details before anything is cut, and make changes while they’re still easy.
Can I see samples before I decide?
Yes. Our St. Matthews design studio has hardwood samples, door styles, finish boards, and hardware you can compare side by side. Visits are by appointment.
Design and Materials
What type of custom built-in projects do you build?
We build for living rooms, bedrooms, basements, pantries, laundry rooms, home offices, and more: entertainment centers and media walls, bookcases and home libraries, fireplace built-ins, bourbon display cabinetry, window seats and reading nooks, home office cabinetry, Murphy beds, pantries and kitchen shelving, mudroom lockers and cubbies, closets and wardrobes, living room wall units, basement built-ins, bedroom built-ins, and custom furniture.
What materials do you use?
Furniture-grade Appalachian hardwoods such as white oak, walnut, cherry, and maple for stained work, premium lacquered composites for painted work, durable catalyzed finishes, and Blum hardware for hinges and drawer runners.
Can you match custom built-ins to existing woodwork?
Yes, many clients prefer their built-in to match their existing trim, doors, and cabinetry. We profile your baseboard, casing, and crown on site to match the shape, then match the wood species, stain color, and sheen, which matter just as much.
What kinds of built-ins work well in older Louisville homes?
It depends on the house. Victorian homes with tall ceilings and few closets suit floor-to-ceiling library walls and wardrobe walls. 1910s–1930s bungalows suit dining room buffets, bookcases beside the fireplace, and window seats. Mid-century ranches with long, low walls suit wall units, media walls, and mudroom lockers at the garage entry.
Installation
Can you make a custom built-in for an existing room?
Yes. Many of our builds are tailored to rooms that are already finished: living rooms, basements, offices, and bedrooms. We measure the room as it is, scribe the cabinetry to its walls and floors, and tie it into your existing trim.
Do you handle the electrical work for lighting?
Low-voltage LED lighting is planned and wired into the cabinetry as part of the build. New circuits, outlets, or switches behind the wall are done by a licensed electrician.
Do I need a permit for a built-in?
Cabinetry on its own generally doesn’t need a permit in Jefferson County, while new electrical or plumbing work does, and the licensed trade pulls it. Some small cities, such as Audubon Park, require a permit before construction of any kind, so we check local requirements before work starts.
What if something isn’t right after installation?
Tell us. If there are issues after installation day, we always make it right.
